Masks for Ariel Villasanta

February 2, 2010

These handmade paper maché masks were especially made to fit Ariel Villasanta and match his vibrant wardrobe. Of course, there’s the basic black and white masks. Now these masks posted below are the simpler versions which Ariel wishes to use for formal occasions, hence, the minimal details. Both masks are adorned with rhinestones and intricate silver paint-job.

Then there’s the yellow and purple mask. For this particular order, I decided to employ a checkered design with yellow as the dominant color. Purple rhinestones, gilded details, and metallic purple swirls complete the design for a more festive look.

My favourite so far from this first batch of mask orders is this silver, black, and gray mask which Ariel particularly requested to be embellished with lots of “bling.” And this was how I incorporated bling to my mask design without losing the Venetian feel (it doesn’t look the least bit hip hop though). The left side is painted in silver while the right is painted in black. The mask is festooned with rhinestones adorning the silver-colored patterns.
